YouWriteOn.com extends its warmest congratulations to YouWriteOn member Patricia J. DeLois, who has signed a five-figure two-book deal with Berkley Books, a division of Penguin.

Patricia was one of YouWriteOn's inaugural 2007 Book of the Year Award winners with her novel Bufflehead Sisters, published by YouWriteOn through print-on-demand. She was also a YouWriteOn Book of the Year award winner this year with the opening chapters of her novel Penguins in Amsterdam. Berkley Books will print a new edition of Bufflehead Sisters in July of 2009, and publish Penguins in Amsterdam a year later.

Patrica informed us, "Many thanks to all the reviewers at YouWriteOn, and thanks especially to Ted, who worked at least as hard as I did to get Buffleheads published. Believe me when I say this would not have happened without you, and you have my eternal devotion."

In the author's home state of Maine, with a population of over 1 million, Bufflehead Sisters was rated number one book of the year by the Press Herald, the state's largest newspaper, ahead of a sequel by Pulitzer Prize winner Richard Ford . The story topped the list of 10 books recommended by newspaper readers, professional reviewers, book store owners, and librarians. Bufflehead Sisters Story Synopsis: Janet has always wanted a sister, and she believes her prayers have been answered when she meets Sophie. It is only after 30 years of friendship that Janet discovers that sisterhood doesn't mean the same thing to Sophie that it means to her. British Arts Council YouWriteOn.com Book of the Year Award Winner 2007.

"Bufflehead Sisters, by Patti DeLois ($13, YouWriteOn). The most stunning work of imagination published by a Maine author this year. This novel won the British National Council of the Arts Award. Penned by a Portland librarian, the sister tale is funny, heartbreaking, hair-raising, painful, perverse, and redeeming. If you can only afford to buy one novel this year, drop the clicker, get off the couch, and chase this one down. "
