Random House Group Consider New Writing Talent from Arts Council funded YouWriteOn.com

Random House is the UK’s biggest book publisher, publishing world-class bestselling authors such as John Grisham, Bill Bryson and Ian McEwan.

As part of The Random House Group’s commitment to new writing talent, the publisher has announced that it will read and consider highly rated Top Ten stories from YouWriteOn.com. From April to September in 2008, Random House Editors and E-book Managerial and Marketing staff will be involved in the scheme to give budding writers an opportunity to be considered by the
’s largest publisher. Random House will consider the Top Ten writers listed in the Top Ten Chart on the 1st of each month for the six month period.

YouWriteOn.com, which began in 2006, has the simple premise of new writers reviewing and rating each others stories and opening chapters in a chart system. Each month, YouWriteOn's Top 5 new writers receive free Arts Council funded critiques from editors for leading literary agents and publishers, and the site’s affiliated literary agents include Curtis Brown and The Christopher Little Literary Agency,  J.K Rowling’s Agent.

Helping New Writers Develop

In 2007, YouWriteOn member Doug Jackson received a free YouWriteOn editor critique for the opening chapters of his story,
The Emperor's Elephant. The result of Doug's story development was a six-figure book deal with Transworld, part of The Random House Group. Doug's story, now titled Caligula, will be published in Summer 2008. The writer was one of YouWriteOn's inaugural Book of the Year Awards finalists.
